The country association will have membership from practising media professionals and weather/climate information experts.NECJOGHA will promote and co-ordinate dissemination of climate related information in the Greater Horn of Africa (GHA) in a professional manner. It will work with National Meteorological Services and other specialised climate institutions of the region with a view of corroborating scientific information to different sectors e.g. health, agriculture, environment, hydrology, power and industry etc.It will strive to provide timely information to members in the GHA for dissemination to the public. A regional data bank will be built after the formation of the NECJOGHA secretariat. The formation of NECJOGHA was strongly recommended and blessed by side meeting of journalists during COF 8 in Jinja, Uganda (2001).An interim committee led by Patrick Luganda of New Vision, Uganda as co-ordinaor has been set up. Others are Mbaraka Islam of Habari Corporation, Tanzania as Organising Secretary, Marie- Goretti Muhitira, Publicity and Information Secretary with committee Members as, Samuel Wandimi Muchemi of Kenya Meteorological Department, Simon Gatheru of National Museums and Joseph Ngome of BBC Kenya.Among the tasks of the Network will be the training and creation of awareness of members in the region.
